Chicago Marathon: Event security and job creation, with a smile

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon brings a river of runners through many Chicago neighborhoods. But, thanks to Monterrey Security, it also creates a steady flow of jobs in surrounding communities.

Monterrey has provided event security for the Chicago Marathon since 2009. The minority-owned firm, based in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, partners with Marathon organizers and city agencies to help ensure a safe race day. The firm’s continued growth is due in large part to its success with the Marathon.

 

Monterrey pays that success forward in several Chicago communities. “Although it’s only one event a year, we go into area neighborhoods – like Pilsen, Lawndale, Back of the Yards and Logan Square – and offer the training to provide services for a mass gathering like the Marathon,” said Juan Gaytan, president of Monterrey Security. “There are a number of people who are now working with us on a full-time basis as a result of the Marathon.”
